Do you remember, as a kid, grabbing family albums almost as big as you and flipping through every page? You noticed how little you were and remembered the names of your favourite stuffed animals and toys. As you grew up, you went back to those same albums, but noticed different things. Now you saw how young your parents looked, how the house was decorated differently, and ah yes… there was your favourite toy.
As we grow up, we constantly go back to those memories that shaped who we are today. The funny thing is we don’t always make the time to record those precious moments. Perhaps now you have your own family, or your parents are older and aren’t as diligent about booking family photoshoots. We tell ourselves we’re too busy or the kids and the dog can’t sit tight for that long. Sometimes the up-front investment might be too much or you simply don’t like the look of indoor photography sessions. As a mother and photographer, I can empathize with each and everyone of those thoughts. It’s also because I am a mother and photographer that I continue seeing the value of documenting families at different stages of life.
In my journey to capture those moments of high sentimental value while being flexible and accommodating of my clients’ time, I began introducing mini-sessions. We’re talking 30 minutes; in and out. Perfect for families on the go.
Family mini-sessions can take place outdoors close to your home or in a central location. If you’ve got younger kids or a puppy who get restless quickly, this can be a great option. And if you’ve got older children who take directions well, the photo session will fly right by!
Mini-sessions can be booked year round, because kids just grow so dang fast! My personal favourite sessions to photograph are the fall and spring time sessions. The mini-sessions vary in price based on the amount of digital files you wish to receive. And you always have the option to print them through Barbara Ann Studios or any place you like.
So allow yourself to make time for those beautiful memories, and give your kids the opportunity to sit with an album on their lap. I promise you won’t regret looking back at your kids’ goofy smiles as they clutch their favourite toy. Feel free to reach out and ask me about how to book a family mini-session, or if you want the full hour long session we can do that too! In the meantime, feel free to scroll down and get some inspiration for your next family photoshoot.
