Le Belvedere Wedding
by Ottawa Wedding Photographer, Barbara Ann
Melissa and Paul are the quintessential romantic couple. They are such a fantastic fit for each other because they both GET each other completely. This couple understands that one is an introvert and one is an extrovert, yet somehow they they completely fit into each others lives. It was such a beautiful thing to witness as their family and friends talked about their children/best friends.
The day started with arriving at Le Belvedere which is such a stunning venue and uber organized facility. The staff are always helpful and Jessica always ensures the day runs so smoothly. The weather was so spring like and of course, the vista views were out of this world. I ran into Melissa up at the reception as she was checking it out before hair and makeup. The decor was so elegant and fresh. I have to tell you this too…Melissa wanted succulents for the centre pieces and was bound and determined to grow/propagate her own over the past year. I have a hard enough trouble keeping mine alive let alone growing new ones! However it was a complete success with guests leaving the wedding with beautiful centrepieces and now Paul gets his home back without 100s of plants 🙂
Having a bride who has her own style is awesome and Melissa was no exception. Her dress was a two piece with a white lace overlay top and the bottom was a custom made pink skirt. It was stunning and fit her to a tee. She truly was a glowing spring bride. While the bridal party was getting ready upstairs, the groomal party (yes that’s a word; I use it all the time) were downstairs watching their friends collect marshmallow roasting sticks for the awesome S’mores by the bonfire at night. Paul looked so handsome and refined in his Harry Rosen black tux as well. What came as a huge surprise to me was when Paul literally tied his bowtie in less than 3 minutes. This was not a clip on folks, this was an actual bowtie. I have never seen a groom tie one that fast before in al my years of documenting weddings. There is just something about a man in a well tailored suit! It was such a relaxed early afternoon with everyone. Prosecco was flowing as was some Scottish beer but the laughter was on both levels of the house.
Melissa and Paul opted to have a more traditional ceremony and not see each other until they walked down the aisle. I would say this is about half of what my clients choose instead of a first look. It’s your wedding! Do exactly what you want to do 🙂 Melissa walked down the aisle on a runner that her Aunt specifically made for her which makes the ceremony even more special when a family member does something that shows their love for the couple. My awesome friend Alan Viao was the officiant and I did see him tear up during their personalized vows that the couple wrote themselves. He really makes a ceremony so honest and customized to the couple….I absolutely love him! Witnessing how emotionally Melissa and Paul were during their vows really struck a cord with me and if I can give any couple advice, write your own vows. It is such a beautiful moment for you and your partner.
After the ceremony we headed to the Wakefield covered bridge on a bus where I swear, the driver was Auto from the Simpsons complete with electric guitar. Jessica packed up some appetizers for the wedding party for the road trip (isn’t she awesome!) and we headed out into the gorgeous sunshine filled day. The wedding party surprised the couple with two signed bottles of yummy prosecco and it was an awesome. After the session, we headed back to the venue for a yummy and well prepared dinner that was filled with intimate speeches from family and friends.
Huge thanks to Melissa and Paul for trusting me with their wedding day and documenting to the fullest. It means a lot to me and I am so happy our paths crossed.
